Design Driven Problem Solving

Through my journey working with product teams of varying sizes and domains I've developed a strategic design framework that enables product teams to navigate complex design challenges efficiently within agile environments. This flexible approach has consistently demonstrated its value by providing scalable and customizable guidelines.

Project Sizes

A. New Product Design 1 Quarter

For use when a product is ill-defined, unsure of market fit, or complete product redesign.

B. New Feature Design 1 Month

Explore ideas before engineering resources are committed

C. Production Design 1 Sprint

For a new or updated feature based on organizational goals and/or user feedback.

Structure

  1. Write/Review brief, 1-2 days
  2. Sketch workshop, 1 hour meeting
  3. Low fidelity prototype first pass
    • Add additional passes for A and B
  4. Review / Test prototypes
    • Add additional test or research for A and B
  5. Visual design and copy (if design system = true)
  6. Review final design with team/stakeholders
    • May need additional iterations for A and B
  7. Create notification and support materials 2 days

Competitors/Inspiration

An analysis of what is out there within the domain and inspiration outside of the domain

Personas/User Flows

This section outlines user personas and their representative workflows, serving as a strategic guide to inform our decision-making process with user-centered insights.

Sketches

In this space, I collect and share visual artifacts from our design process: screen captures highlighting key patterns, collaborative sketches, and design notes that spark inspiration and inform our creative thinking.

Design Exploration

Here, we transform conceptual ideas into tangible wireframes and user flows, actively seeking input from designers and product team members to validate and improve our design direction.

Prototype

This section hosts interactive prototypes designed to validate user interactions and core design concepts, ensuring alignment with user expectations and needs.

Dev

Annotated design artifacts, including screen layouts, component specifications, and design assets, providing clear technical guidance for engineering implementation.

Tracking Work

Trello KanBan

I use Miro or Trello to track my work and provide the product team with a high-level view for prioritizing tasks and developing roadmaps.

Design / Discover Backlog

Work to be priortized based on roadmap, team goals
